how to decorate a cake

Steps
Decide how you want to decorate the cake. A message, face, or just cool stuff put all over it? Signs and faces are best for parties and occasions, remember that.
Carefully get a piece of paper. Draw and plan out what you want to do. Figure out what you need, and get it. Make sure your plan/drawing is very detailed-there's one cake, and it's better to get it right on the first or second couple of tries, rather than continuously smudging stuff off.
Once you have everything you need and you're confident, get to work. For signs and faces, you might want to practise on a towel or solid surface first, so you're a little more-experienced in the area. Make sure you're careful and don't crush anything in the process. Make sure you leave room for candles! After all, candles symbolize a celebration!!

Tips
When you get the stuff in tubes, the actual frosting works better than gel frosting.
If you mess up, it doesn't matter. Just wipe off the mistake and put the tub frosting over it and start that bit again if it's really bad. or if it's not terrible, just carry on and ignore it.
Wait until the cake is completely cool until you put the tub frosting on. Otherwise, you can peel off the top layer of cake and get a messy result. Also, the frosting may melt a bit, resulting in a change in taste.

Warnings
The urge to eat the cake may occur.
